Atglen Veterinary Hospital is a full-service, small animal veterinary hospital located in Christiana PA, providing comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care. We have been helping the local pet population since 1975, when the practice was started in Atglen by Dr. Raymond L. Ewing out of his home. After 10 years in a home-office we moved to our present location. In 2005 we completely remodeled the existing space and added on to our original building, doubling the area available to better serve you and your pets. We’re pleased and proud that we’ve grown to a practice of over 7,800 clients and more than 14,500 patients.
We provide a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories. We also work closely with local referral practices when special diagnostic procedures or treatments are required. The facility includes a well-stocked pharmacy, in-hospital surgery suite, in-house x-ray capabilities, a closely supervised hospitalization area, and outdoor walking areas.
At Atglen Veterinary Hospital we care for your pets as if they were our own. We strive to offer not only sound advice, but also optimal veterinary care, thus allowing you the enjoyment of your companion for a maximum number of years. Our job is not only to treat your pet when he or she isn’t feeling well, but also to help you learn how to keep your best friend happy and healthy.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to call us.
RAYMOND L. EWING, JR., V.M.D.
Dr. Raymond Ewing’s first job was that of a grave digger in a pet cemetery associated with Millar Animal Hospital in Oakhurst, New Jersey. The practice owner, Dr. Joseph Millar became a mentor to him and guided and encouraged him as he progressed through a Biology degree from Lafayette College to a VMD from the University of Pennsylvania. After working at a practice in South Jersey and as track Veterinarian for the Delaware Park Racing Association, he started Atglen Veterinary Hospital as a home office in 1975. After 10 years, a separate office was established at the current location and the practice grew, allowing for the addition of associate Veterinarians and an excellent, loyal and longstanding staff. The facility was renovated and doubled in size in 2005, and the entire staff continues to offer superior care for all pets and the humans attached to them.
In his free time Dr. Ewing enjoys fly and surf fishing, chasing foxes on horseback, playing with his grandchildren and spending time at the beach with Wendy, his wife of 40+ years.
I’d like to say Thank-you for the great job you did on my surgery. My 10 days are up and I can run, play, and get my favorite toy back! Oh yea, and the best part is that you can hardly see my scar! Thank you!!
Dr. Ewing and the Atglen Vet Crew, I just want to thank you for your TLC during Tasha’s twilight days. I never doubted that she was surrounded by great love and kindness! Thanks for updating and reassuring me while I was in a foreign country! Thank you for giving her one last gift of your help.
Thank you so much for all your help and for saving Dutchess! Dutchess is precious to us!
Thanks to each of you for your kindness and wonderful care you gave to Foxy while she was a patient.
Dr. Ewing, It was so kind and generous of you to spend so much time with Mandy and me. I really appreciate your expert opinion of Mand’s schnozzola wound and the advice and suggestions for weight control and alternative ideas for walking assists. I’m always grateful for your expertise. Thanks for treating your 4 legged and 2 legged friends so well!
Chip, Thank you for all the excellent veterinary care given to Midge through the years. From her early high-energy “wild child” years to her final “old girl” days I always appreciated and admired your expertise, your advice, your time, and the kindness shown to both Midgie and me by you and your staff.
Thank you for helping Buddy. We appreciate your love and kindness for animals.
Thank you all! You made us feel supported – your staff are super people that we will never forget!
To allow ample time for all patients and scheduled surgical procedures, we operate primarily by appointment. Emergency cases shall always receive top priority, which is why occasional appointment delay is inevitable.
Please realize that we make a sincere attempt to see each client on time. For your convenience, “drop-off” appointments are available. A drop off means you could bring your pet at the time that works best for you and leave him/her with us for a few hours. Usually we will ask you to drop off sometime in the morning so our doctors can examine the patient in between appointments or at a time purposely reserved for admitted patients. Once the doctor is done, he or she will give you a call to go over the diagnosis, formulate a treatment plan, and answer your questions.
For the safety of all animals in our care, we require that all vaccinations be up to date. We request that all animals be placed on a leash or in pet carriers before entering the waiting room.
We are happy to answer your questions and discuss our fees and policies at any time. Payment can be made by check, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, debit cards, and of course, cash.
In an effort to keep our fees as reasonable and low as possible, and to make payment as convenient for you as possible, we extend credit only by way of credit cards.
Atglen Veterinary Hospital is a proud participant in many of the local low cost spay and neuter programs. We accept certificates from the Chester County SPCA, the Lancaster County Humane League, and ORCA, among others, and we are pleased to do our part in helping to make the nationally organized Spay Day program a big success. Because of our commitment to helping the organizations and our community, many pets adopted through these groups also receive free first visits and examinations by our Doctors.
Look for our spay and neuter certificates which we donate to local charity auctions throughout the year. Our hope is that these don’t turn out to be low cost operations but rather a bonanza of high bids from the buyers so that the organizations get lots of money for them!
