WHAT'S NEW

Atglenvet.com has entered cyberspace.  Feel free to browse our online store - to renew your prescriptions online - or to simply click around and browse our site.

Winter and especially the Holiday season can be especially troublesome for your pets.  Be sure to avoid feeding that left-over turkey or fruitcake to your dogs or cats.  Even though it's a festive time of year for us, it's still better to give your pets the gifts of extra love and attention rather than unusual foods.

The staff at Atglen Veterinary Hospital is organizing a team (the return of The Animal Crackers!) to participate in the 4th annual LanChester Relay For Life at the Octorara Area High School June 2008.  The relay is set up with teams of 10 to 12 people in which one person from the team must be walking the track throughout the 24 hour event  The money raised goes to the American Cancer Society for research toward cancer cures and the nationwide event is their number one fundraiser.  We are looking for donations from our clients and friends, so please feel free to stop in our office to make a donation.  Your old cell phones can be turned at our office for recycling and the Cancer Society will get a couple of dollars in return.  Bring 'em in and we'll do the rest--all for a good cause.

On Saturday December 1, 2007 4:00 we hosted a very special guest.  Santa visited our office to pose for pictures with your pets!!  Photos were available to take home right away--No waiting!!  This was a fund raiser for our Relay for Life team and all proceeds were donated to The American Cancer Society.  Those who came were very generous with their donations, and between the photos and pet related items for sale, we were able to raise over $1300.00 for the American Cancer Society!!   This was a huge success due to the efforts of our entire staff who put in many hours preparing for this event, but special thanks go to Lois Lantz and Carol Murphy who did the majority of the organizing, and to Dr. Peggy Frame, who created many of the pet related items available for purchase.  The staff worked together for a long time prior to the event to make certain that all would be ready for Santa's arrival.

We're very happy to welcome back Kimberly Bond to our staff.  Kimberly was one of our receptionists for several years and, after an 8 1/2 year "vacation" to be a stay at home Mom and home-school teacher for son Nathan, she has returned to add her skills and her smile to our office.  And in a similar vein, we're very sad to say goodbye to Teri Yeckley, who has decided to be at home with her two terrific sons Cameron and Cale, and her husband Craig.  We can only hope that at some point in the future Teri will follow Kimberly's example and return to be a part of our practice family.

In the ever changing landscape of companion animal ownership, it is sometimes a challenge for our doctors and staff to discern just what that furry quadruped is on the other end of a client's leash  Recently the American Kennel Club (AKC) recognized two new breeds, the Black Russian Terrier and the Neopolitan Mastiff, bringing to 164 breeds and varities that can compete for championship points at AKC shows.

Be sure to maintain effective flea and tick control even during these winter months by regularly using either Frontline Top Spot or K-9 AdvanTix.  It's common in this area to find ticks on pets at all times of the year, so good control is essential.
